Meet Heidi

My journey into birth work began in 2007, when I started training to become a midwife. It didn’t take long for me to realize that my heart belonged in doula work—walking alongside families during pregnancy, birth, and those tender early weeks postpartum.

What began as a calling quickly grew into a thriving doula practice, and over the years I’ve had the incredible privilege of supporting more than 370 families as they welcomed their babies into the world.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting families from many different backgrounds and through many different circumstances—including single parents, families navigating pregnancy after loss, families experiencing the loss of a baby during pregnancy or birth, people with histories of trauma, families of color, LGBTQ+ families, and families with many different structures and stories. Every family brings their own experiences, hopes, and needs into the birth space, and I believe each deserves to feel respected, heard, safe, and supported through whatever their journey may bring.

As my own three children grew and my husband and I entered the empty-nest years, I decided it was time for a change. I stepped away from doula work and moved into social services, where I worked with families experiencing trauma and developed extensive experience in trauma-informed care and mental health.

It was meaningful work, but I never stopped missing birth work.

Then I became a grandmother.

I had the extraordinary experience of watching my own grandbabies come into the world—not as the doula in the room, but simply as a mom watching her children become parents. It was incredibly special, and it reminded me just how much I missed being part of this season in a family’s life.

Eventually, I began supporting families again through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. And something clicked. Stepping back into doula work felt completely natural, almost as though no time had passed.

I knew I was back where I belonged.

Today, I bring both sides of my experience to the families I support—the knowledge that comes from nearly two decades in and around birth work, along with the deeper understanding of trauma, mental health, and family dynamics that I gained during my years in social services.

On a personal note, I live in Issaquah with my husband of 35 years. We have three wonderful grown children and four grandbabies who are some of my favorite people to spend time with.

After taking the long way around, it feels pretty wonderful to be home again.
